About Me

Professional chemist, abecedarian blogger, neophyte photographer, culinary putterer…

I haven’t ended that sentence above. It’ll have addendum’s as life goes on. With years to go and lots to achieve. For now, the above line describes me pretty well.

chemist / biochemist by formal training, a motorcyclist by passion and a photographer by hobby. Lucky to be born in the golden era of rock music (the 80′s of course!) I come from a family of Chemists and Bankers, Ph.D’s and M.A.’s. I have had to fortune of graduating from a premier institute called Institute of Chemical Technology (we chemists still love calling our alma mater UDCT) in 2009 with a Bachelor of Technology, specializing in Dyestuff and Intermediates Technology. After which, I wanted to diversify my position in the field – so went on to join my present advisor, Prof. Alvan C. Hengge to pursue a Masters in Chemistry. Over the past few years, I’ve worked on synthesis of fluorinated analogues of amino acids on the chemistry side, expression, isolation and crystallographic studies of effector proteins released by Salmonella and Shigella on the biochemistry side (now you know what I mean by diversifying my position!).Presently I’m in the process of putting the finishing touches on structure of a crystal structure using Coot/Phenix. This along with the drafting of my dissertation is keeping me quite busy.

Job hunt:

While I hope to set up my own company eventually, my main objective right now is to work for a multinational pharmaceutical or nutraceutical company. I like how big multinational companies plan, implement and develop products. The amount of forethought that goes into each product, the market analysis, etc. is amazing.

My background in chemical technology (engineering) and chemistry (bench work) makes me a great candidate for positions in Technology Transfer, Quality Assurance, and Process Development. My ability to pick up skills and techniques fast, acquire in-depth knowledge of the process at hand, and of course my curiosity to learn everything (whether is python programming, or heat transfer – yes I’m still trying to understand a 1980′s textbook right now!) makes me a great candidate for any of the departments.
